| I have my Toshiba Portege 3010CT with no floppy or CD drive. It has Windows 98 First Edition (which I don't like) and I want to install Windows 95 on it. I could add a PCMCIA CD-ROM drive, but these are rare.

Alternatively, create a boot disk under MS-DOS in Windows 95/98. As there are differences between Windows 95, OSR2 and Windows 98, separate disks will be needed for each. | How does it not have a floppy drive? If it doesn't have one you might be stuck installing the OS using another laptop and copy all your drivers to the hard drive then swap the drive back into the Toshiba and run the driver installers from there and you'll have 95 installed.

Well, that's the only laptop I have from this era. The laptop is thin.

| Do you have any other laptops with an IDE drive? If not do you have a desktop that you can get a 2.5' to 3.5' IDE adapter for and install using that?

| Do you have any other laptops with an IDE drive? If not do you have a desktop that you can get a 2.5' to 3.5' IDE adapter for and install using that? My other laptop is a MacBook. I will get a 2.5 to 3.5 inch IDE adapter soon and use it with the IBM PC300GL.

| I searched for the specs of this notebook and has USB! Does it have USB boot option in BIOS?? if yes, get a cd drive with usb (very cheap on ebay) ond go on! if no, check bios update before surrendering..

Windows 95's USB support can be very frustrating since it needs drivers for almost everything you plug in, and that is possible to fail or corrupt the installation at some point. My personal suggestion: Mount the HDD into another computer, copy all Windows 95 installation file into the HDD and do the 1st part installation, then shut down and mount the drive back to the laptop before you continue with the 1st time setup after installation had finished copying files. You can also install a DOS boot on the drive and copy all Win95 installation files into the drive, then start all installation with the drive mounted in the laptop. Win95Setup now has 95 posts
